Preventing Leaks on Low Sloped Roof
Challenge
This home in Old Lyme had an old roof with underlying issues. Several pieces of plywood were damaged and needed to be replaced along with the roof. The roof itself had a very shallow slope with made it susceptible to leaks and ice dams. A lower slope means a slower run-off of rain water and ice dams are more likely to stay on the roof.
Solution
Our solution was to first replace any rotten or damaged plywood. Next, we covered the entire roof deck in Weatherlock Flex Ice & Water barrier. This material seals the roof deck from water penetrations and especially water that may sit on the roof for a time. We then installed Owens Corning Duration shingles with 6 nails per shingle. (Color: Sierra Gray). The roof not only looks better but will perform better with the right protection from the 1st Owens Corning Platinum Contractor in Connecticut.
