Get Your Roof Inspected - Not Powerwashed - Chester, CT
Challenge
This Chester, CT home had just recently been purchased, and its rehabilitation was starting at the top. The original roof was a 3-tab with pretty severe damage from some past power washing. Using a pressure washer will actually damage the surface of the shingle, and strip asphalt granules from it! This will drastically reduce the lifespan of your roof, and can void warranties. Also on this project, there was a cupola that needed special care, and skylights which needed to be replaced with the roof.
Solution
For the first stage of this restoration, we installed a complete new plywood deck on a dining room addition, and covered it with mule-hide bit flat roofing. For this we removed all of the existing wood rake, fascia and soffit boards and installed Kleer PVC composite, with a vented vinyl soffit under the dining room overhang. We then demolished the existing skylight curb on the dining room addition, and framed/flashed the new curb. A new Velux skylight with laminated glass was installed with drywall and trim incorporated into the interior. The flashing around the base of the cupola was thoroughly inspected and a SmartVent was installed along the eaves of the primary structure only. Finally, new Leaf Relief gutter guards were added to all of the gutters.
