Roof Leak Repair in Quinebaug, CT
Challenge
Many times when you find a leak in your house, or a stain on your ceiling, it can be very difficult to find where it’s actually coming from. Here in Quinebaug, CT we were called for an inspection because water was seeping into the dining room. The entire corner was stained and impossible to ignore. Attempts at painting would be futile unless the leak was addressed first. Our team's main focus was to find where the leak was coming from and how to fix it!
Solution
The source of the leak was actually caused by the addition to the house. Previous owners had added a shed dormer on top of the steep triangular roof above the front door. Whenever you have new siding connecting to your roof, it needs metal step flashing underneath. However, the step flashing underneath the siding on the dormer was laid down incorrectly. This resulted in rain water coming down the roof and entering the house at the step flashing. To fix this problem, the siding and shingles around the problem area were removed. Ice & Water shield was then put behind the siding beneath the new step flashing along with some shingles. Now that the leak is gone, that corner of their dining room can finally be painted.
