Historic Renovation of 1713 Home
Challenge
This was a highly unique Historic District Colonial built in 1713. The building was formerly a tavern and is recognized on the National Register of Historic Places. The museum-like interior is adorned by authentic corner boards, feathered wood walls, a custom 18th century built-in hutch and many other original markings. We absolutely needed to approach this project delicately, as there was so much history to conserve under one roof.
Solution
Klaus served as General Contractor and performed a 9 month-long historic renovation inside and out that brought the home back to its original glory.
Inside, the electric was completely rewired to code with all old wiring removed. The master bathroom was renovated with heated flooring, R50 insulation installed in the attic, and a home energy conversion to natural gas. The exterior was also completely restored and repainted. A deck was added, and energy-efficient windows installed. Finally, Klaus Larsen stripped the roof down to the original wood structure and replaced it with a modern architectural asphalt shingle that maintains the historic look of the home.
