Voted the "Ugliest House in CT," this homeowner was ready to transform their property into one of the most beautiful in the state. With plans for a full roof replacement, new gutters, and siding, this home is set for a complete renovation. However, this large 9931 sqft property presented several challenges. The last roof replacement, done in 2001, involved layering new shingles over the old ones without inspecting the plywood beneath. This oversight led to leaks over time. Years of neglect had left the plywood damaged, with areas around the two chimneys completely rotted and blackened, including all boards around the flashing. Unfortunately, the previous roofers missed these issues, leaving the home unprotected. In addition, the property has multiple skylights and sun tunnels, which required close collaboration with the homeowner to locate and address. Despite these challenges, we’re committed to bringing this home the structural integrity and aesthetic appeal it deserves.
Solution
To address these issues, we carefully removed the double layer of old shingles and replaced all the damaged plywood underneath. We then applied our protective seals, including VeloraOne Roof Underlayment and SealoronXT Ice & Water, to ensure long-term durability and leak prevention. These protective layers add crucial security to the roof, particularly in vulnerable areas. For the finishing touch, we installed IKO Dynasty shingles in the vibrant color "Icelandic Blue," giving the home a fresh, modern look. With this complete overhaul, the roof is now structurally sound, well-protected, and aesthetically striking, perfectly aligning with the homeowner’s vision for a beautiful, resilient property.

This photo reveals the double-layered shingles on the plywood and highlights the issues that can occur when old shingles aren't removed during a roof replacement. The black, rotted boards clearly show the extent of the damage and needed to be replaced. Addressing these problems was essential to ensure the new roof would be sturdy and durable for years to come.
Here, you can see the rotting chimney flashing and plywood boards that the previous roofers neglected to replace. At this point, most of the shingles have been removed, and the size of the home, combined with the double-layer shingles, made this a considerable undertaking.
At this point, we are applying the SealoronXT Deck Tape, along with the SealoronXT Ice & Water and VeloraOne Roof Underlayment. The SealoronXT Deck Tape helps seal the seams of the plywood, preventing water from seeping in and causing damage. The SealoronXT Ice & Water provides additional protection against ice dams and heavy rainfall, ensuring that vulnerable areas of the roof are safeguarded. Lastly, the VeloraOne Roof Underlayment adds an extra layer of defense against leaks and acts as a barrier against harsh weather conditions. Together, these products create a strong foundation that enhances the overall durability of the roof, providing peace of mind for the homeowner.
