Roofing shingles are extremely unsuited for landfill disposal. Because asphalt doesn't break down, it actually creates shelves when disposed of in landfills. What happens is that the material underneath is inhibited from getting access to air or water, so the garbage does not deteriorate as it should. Over time, other waste builds up on top of these shelves, which causes a host of issues. Our process begins on site, with our 'roof in a can' containers. Asphalt shingles, nails, underlayment and other misc. debris is tossed in and completely removed from the property. The containers are then brought to the Asphalt Roof Recycling Center in Stratford, CT.
As far as sustainable roofing goes, this is just the beginning. There was a time when the thought of recycling asphalt shingles was considered unrealistic. Now with new advancements in technology, people are getting excited about a whole new era of responsible contracting!
