This homeowner in Glastonbury, CT reached out to us about a roof replacement. The roof was over 20 years old and needed to be replaced due to wind damage, so they called us to install a full Klaus Roofing System. We also worked closely with the homeowner on the insurance claims. What goes into putting a Klaus on Your House? An important part of the Klaus Roofing Way, our team inspects the attic space to identify any structural problems and molding. We first replaced any damaged plywood and renailed the existing decking with Ring Shank Nails, a higher quality nail that is a cross between a nail and a screw and won't come out in high winds. We then laid down our Klaus Larsen Roofing SealoronXT Ice & Water self-sealing membrane to create a moisture barrier between the decking and the shingles. We also added 100 extra feet of Ice & Water for the lower slope roof on left rear of house. For even more protection, we installed our own Velora One Underlayment, a high performance synthetic underlayment designed to protect the home in even the most severe weather. We also took the extra step to protect the home by taping the the plywood steams with our all-weather SealoronXT Deck Tape. It's the Klaus Roofing Way! To top it off, for new asphalt shingles, we installed IKO Dynasty Architectural Shingles featuring a 1-1/4" nailing area made with a tough reinforcing woven band for incredible nail-holding power to protect the home against Mother Nature's fury. The homeowner choose the shingle color Biscayne for their new roof.

This home had already existing copper gutters that were worn, malfunctioning and in need of being replaced. Klaus Larsen Roofing started by tearing down those existing gutters and installing new 5-inch 1/2 round copper gutters, which had soldered seams. We then removed and disposed of the existing downspout, and in turn installed a new copper downspout into the ground. This installment came with the Klaus Larsen Standard 5-Year Warranty. This house is now looking better than ever, thanks to Klaus Larsen Roofing!
These owners in Glastonbury called because they were experiencing leaks from Ice dams on the front and rear dormer of the main house. The roof itself also had shingles missing. To solve the Ice dams leaks we installed a Vented Deck System underneath the new shingles. What is a Vented Deck and what does it do? A Vented Deck is a layer of insulation, furring boards, and plywood that creates air flow underneath the shingles. We first installed 1/2” Insulation board on the existing plywood deck. Next, we nailed several 4” wide furring strips on the insulation running parallel to the rafters. Then another layer of plywood does over the strips creating gaps between the furring strips for air. Lastly, the underlayment and shingles are installed as usual on the plywood. What this does is allow cold air to pass between the furring strips and take heat away from the shingles. Ice Dams are caused by heat rising to the shingles during the winter months. If there is no heat reaching the shingles from the attic, then you won’t get ice dams. With a full Vented Deck System, these owners are now ice dam free!
Klaus Larsen Roofing has completed over 70 roofs in Glastonbury and South Glastonbury alone. The house and shed roofs were replaced back in September of 2016. 2,500 square feet of shingles had to come off the roof. When the roof is off, this allows access to the plywood and replaced anything that has rotted. Next, the WeatherLock Ice & Water barrier is laid down and sticks to the plywood. This is installed 9 feet up the roof and above code. All additional plywood is protected by ProArmor synthetic underlayment. Lastly, the Starter shingles and Duration Architectural shingles are nailed down. Each shingle had a nailing area called the SureNail strip which strengthens and thickens the shingle. The owners chose Slatestone Gray and were very happy with the professional job.
This roof on this South Glastonbury (06073) home was about 15 years old. We found some water damage up in the attic space, which indicated that moisture was being let in under the shingles. Klaus Larsen installed Estate Gray shingles with a VentSure ridge vent. This vent comes with a Weather Protector moisture barrier that provides top notch attic ventilation.
