We love roofing in Connecticut because this state is such a treasure trove of historical architecture. The homes we encounter bring together styles from all over the globe and our neighborhoods are truly a melting pot of the varied design virtues brought by over by ancestors.
One design in particular is the Dutch Colonial. These 'barn houses' are built with wide gambrel roofs to have increased attic room. You'll often see decorative or arched brackets, double-hung windows and clapboard siding. Another common trait of Dutch Colonials are gable-end chimneys, as seen on this Manchester, CT property.
This home on gorgeous Lake Pocotopaug in East Hampton, CT looks outstanding with its new roofing system. The fine details of this job include an aluminum drip edge along the roof's perimeter, new lead chimney flashing and four fixed deck mounted skylights. We also removed and replaced all of the rotted fascia and rake boards with primed pine trim boards.
Klaus Larsen has earned an outstanding reputation in Connecticut partly by being one of the states premier winter roofing experts. Even if a roof is covered in multiple feet of ice & snow - the old shingles are raked right off with whatever tundra a nor'easter has dropped. This home in Glastonbury, CT had ice dams and issues with snow not melting off. Poor ventilation was keeping moisture trapped on top of and inside the roof. We got to work directly after a big storm, and were able to give this property the air circulation it needed.
This was a comprehensive job we worked on at the Brookside Condos, in South Windsor, CT. Included on this project were new gutters & downspouts, Owens Corning Duration Cap Shingles, new vents, exhaust boots, and flashing on a total of six chimneys. We also installed crank open Velux skylights with new Kleer composite trim, and removed siding on the dormer walls to install OC High Performance WETHERLOCK FLEX self-sealing Ice & Water Barrier.
On this Wethersfield, CT job we installed a complete new 1/2” CDX plywood deck over the existing structural framing of the back porch. A single row of OC WeatherLock Ice & Water shield was then installed to all eaves and valleys. On top we have TrueDefinition Designer Aged Copper shingles, with matching hip & ridge shingles.
While replacing the roof on a home in Tariffville, our customer's neighbor was so impressed that she requested a quote on her roof as well. We did a total replacement on her roof soon after, and now both houses are the pride of the neighborhood! We offer discounts for communities that get their home's re-roofed together, as many streets have homes that were built around the same time and require improvement simultaneously. This roof on this South Glastonbury (06073) home was about 15 years old. We found some water damage up in the attic space, which indicated that moisture was being let in under the shingles. Klaus Larsen installed Estate Gray shingles with a VentSure ridge vent. This vent comes with a Weather Protector moisture barrier that provides top notch attic ventilation.
The roof on this cape was approaching 20 years old, and was in need of replacement. We tore off one layer, removed the existing skylight and filled in the deck with CDX plywood. On top of a triple row of Ice & Water shield, we installed TruDefinition Duration shingles with a patented SureNail technology, which guarantees an extremely secure, watertight bond. The homeowner was extremely happy with the finished roof, as well as the clean up.
The roof on this Avon, CT home was experiencing very severe leaking, which was doing a great deal of damage to the upstairs ceiling. We started by tearing off both layers of the old roof and recycling the asphalt shingles. The new roof is an Owens Corning Life Time Roofing System, in a sleek Onyx Black. We covered the flat roof over the bathroom with Mile-Hide Mod Bit 1.5 flat roofing, and installed a VentSure ridge vent.
Minor repairs on a roof can you save you money short term, but a problem spot will inevitably turn into a wider problem area. We started this roof up from scratch. Both chimneys were reflashed, the bathroom exhaust vent was reconnected to an existing flex duct, and we installed a new exterior exhaust hood for the kitchen fan. We also replaced and reflashed all skylights and installed new interior finish trim for them.
The roof here was over 20 years old, with brittle shingles that were letting in a great deal of water. We installed OC True Def Duration Slatestone shingles, which are rated with a 130 mph wind resistance. They are also naturally algae resistant, which adds much needed life to the roof. As always, this job was left cleaner than we found it, with no nails or construction debris.
Water was leaking into this Enfield, CT home where an attachment meets the main house. Here there was some visibly broken and rusted flashing. The first step was tearing off and disposing of one layer, so we could start from the ground up. We then replaced the existing casement window with a 3x4 slider to match an existing Simonton Window, along with wood framing, insulation, gypsum wall board, exterior plywood, vinyl siding and window trim to match. The shingles we used were Estate Gray.
To alleviate this leaky roof in Farmington, CT we replaced it with an Owens Corning Life Time Roofing System. We also flashed the skylights, so there would be no future water penetration there. All delaminated plywood was replaced with new CDX plywood, and Ice & Water Shield was added to all eaves as well as a valley. This home is ready for a New England winter!
On this autumn job in West Hartford, CT we began by recycling two layers of asphalt shingles and refreshing the plywood decking. We also installed an 8”x1.5” aluminum drip edge, which prevents shingles from bending over the very perimeter, while diverting water into the gutters. The shingles on this job carry a 50 Year Warranty from Owens Corning.
For this repair job in Berlin, CT we removed approximately 65 linear feet of custom bent aluminum trim coil and replaced with new trim coil, to match the existing aluminum and bend profile. We then removed a damaged piece of siding to the left of the front door and replaced with a piece of siding. The final aspect was replacing the damaged aluminum trim around garage doors with new custom bent aluminum.
This was a winter installation in Unionville, CT where we were able to offer a seasonal discount and save the homeowner money on their project. A layer of Owens Corning True Def Duration Slatestone shingles replaced the prior, badly worn shingles. Underneath we installed three rows of Ice & Water shield, as well as 5” aluminum seamless gutters with downspouts, which act to preserve the home's foundation and basement by diverting water from the base of the structure.
This ranch home in Marlborough, CT had a roof that was about 25 years old with excessive leaking around the skylights. We stripped the old shingles, to start fresh at the decking. All of our disposed of asphalt is brought to a facility to be processed into recycled road asphalt. After tear off, we installed a brown aluminum drip edge and three rows of Owens Corning Ice & Water shield, for an impermeable barrier against precipitation. The ProArmor Synthetic Underlayment is installed beneath the shingles, which is another layer of water repellant material. We replaced the skylights with Velux Skylights, and flashed them to prevent any future leaking. The finished roof is done with Brownwood shingles, as part of a complete Owens Corning roofing system.
This home in Manchester, CT had shingles actually missing in several places. This is a surefire sign that the time has come to replace your roof. The property here was adorned with shrubbery and several trees, which we made a priority to protect with tarps. We replaced the old shingles with TruDefinition Duration shingles in Estate Gray. The ridge vent, which runs along the length of the roof, provides air exhaust to keep the attic well ventilation, and blends seamlessly with the shingles.
Here was a gorgeous Colonial in East Granby, CT that had been suffering from an underperforming roof. Algae and moss were making a home in the seams between the 3-Tab shingles, which do not overlap like the architectural style that we work with. We recycled the old shingles, by sending them off to be processed into road asphalt. The underlying structure which the roof is supported by, otherwise called the decking, was refreshed with new CDX plywood. To prevent any stealth leaking we also re-flashed a medium sized chimney. Owens Corning shingles are made of an algae resistant material, so this house will look (and perform) great for years to come!
When we first encountered this quant roof in Manchester, CT we found several places with missing shingles. It was essential to not only give this home the right protection, but to ensure that our new roof would stand the test of time. Klaus Larsen installed an Owens Corning Life Time Roofing System in Estate Gray, which comes with a Full 50 Year Warranty. A ridge vent was also installed at the roofline, to allow optimal breathability. All of our torn off roofs are recycled into pavement for roads, to avoid detrimental build up of asphalt in landfills.
Klaus Larsen LLC completed this roof at the Green Tea Restaurant, located in Simsbury, CT. This job required one layer of shingles, with three rows of Ice & Water shield in all eaves and one valley. We also flashed the cupola and provided a full ventilation system with a Solar Fan, keeping the atmosphere inside this restaurant consistently comfortable.
For this job in Manchester, CT we first removed and recycled a single layer of old shingles. All damaged plywood decking was replaced, with final payment adjusted based on how much plywood was actually needed, to make this project cost effective. GAF Timberline HD shingles were installed, per request of the Condo Association. We pay you $1 for every nail you find after we complete a job. No nail left behind!
Here in West Simsbury, the owners needed a new roof and also wanted new gutter guards. The current gutter guards were old and could not be reinstalled after the roof was replaced. Also, the gutter guards only covered some of the gutters leaving other areas open to debris and leaves. During the roof installation, the new Leaf Relief gutter guards were installed and new Lead chimney flashing. Now the owners can enjoy a new roof without having to clean their gutters year after year.
Out in the quiet town of Lyme, the owner of this property was experiencing problems with his roof. He needed the entire roof replaced and maybe even some plywood. After the old roof was torn off several pieces of plywood were found that were rotten and worthless. After the new plywood boards were installed, the underlayment went on. We always install 9' of Ice & Water barrier to protect the roof deck from water that gets backed-up by Ice Dams. Next to the Ice & Water comes the Synthetic underlayment. Then comes the Starter Shingles that go on all the outside edges of the roof and are invisible when the roof is complete. The Starter shingles reinforce the edge of the roof and begins the first row of the roof. Then comes the Duration Sierra Gray asphalt shingles. Lastly, comes the new ridge vent and Cap shingles. We always put on thick purpose made cap shingles on the ridge, because that area gets the most weather damage and needs to bend without cracking. Once all the parts were in place, the yard was cleaned up of debris and nails! Please take a moment to see what homeowners in your area say about us!
Over the years Klaus Larsen has restored many historic homes in Connecticut. One such home was this house in Granby. It was built in the 1750’s and had two layers of shingles and most of the plywood was rotten or damaged. When our crew arrived, they installed 41 sheets of plywood on top of the old Tongue and Groove boards. Before the new underlayment when on, the flashing was replaced on both chimneys with lead flashing. Then the Ice & Water barrier and ProArmer underlayment were installed on top of the plywood. Finally, the 50-year Duration Shingles were nailed onto the new roof deck. The Duration shingles have a strong nailing called the SureNail strip that enables the shingles to withstand winds up to 130mph. The Owners chose the Estate Gray color and can now enjoy a new roof with a new strong plywood foundation.
We have done numerous jobs in Manchester, and among them was this small yellow home. When our crews started early in the morning, they stripped off 2 layers of shingles and 20 sheets of rotten plywood. Once that was done, the Ice & Water barrier and ProArmor underlayment could be installed. Before the Duration Quarry Gray shingles went up, the ventilation was addressed. The crew cut and installed new Cobra Fascia vents and a ridge vent. This allows cold air to flow from the bottom of the roof to the top. Ventilation takes away warm air from the roof which helps prevent ice dams and an overheated attic. Once the Ventilation was taken care off the new 50-year shingles and gutters were nailed into place. Every job, no matter how small, gets the best guarantee in the industry from Klaus Larsen Roofing.
Klaus Larsen Roofing has completed over 70 roofs in Glastonbury and South Glastonbury alone. The house and shed roofs were replaced back in September of 2016. 2,500 square feet of shingles had to come off the roof. When the roof is off, this allows access to the plywood and replaced anything that has rotted. Next, the WeatherLock Ice & Water barrier is laid down and sticks to the plywood. This is installed 9 feet up the roof and above code. All additional plywood is protected by ProArmor synthetic underlayment. Lastly, the Starter shingles and Duration Architectural shingles are nailed down. Each shingle had a nailing area called the SureNail strip which strengthens and thickens the shingle. The owners chose Slatestone Gray and were very happy with the professional job.
In 2013 this home in Deep River needed a new roof and gutters. Although the old roof was past its useful life, the owners couldn’t pay for it up front. However, Klaus Larsen offers financing and the owners were able to get the roof replaced with comfortable monthly payments. The roof was replaced with a 50-year Owens Corning shingle and new aluminum seamless gutters. The Owens Corning roofing system provides a number of layers that protect your home. Ice & Water barrier and synthetic underlayment protect the plywood. Then the Duration shingles are nailed with purpose made cap shingles. The entire yard was cleaned up afterward. We provide our own dumpster to haul away and recycle the shingles back into asphalt. The nails were cleaned up and we offer $1.00 for each nail left behind. Klaus Larsen not only offers a 50-year warranty but a satisfaction with our work start to finish.
The home in East Hartford is owned by a Condo Association. They took action to get a couple leaking roofs replaced. This home had 2 layers of shingles that needed to be torn off. Both layers were removed from the property and taken away to be recycled. Before the roof could go on, any and all rotten plywood was replaced with new 1/2" plywood. Once that is done the 9' of Ice & Water barrier was installed on the roof. This layer protects your home from water from rain or ice dams. Next, the remaining plywood is covered with ProArmor synthetic underlayment. Lastly, comes the shingles. We use Owens Corning Duration shingles and nail them in place with 6 nails per shingle. The nailing area itself is clearly marked and strengthened by the SureNail strip that Owens Corning designed. The smaller flat roof was also torn off and replaced. We installed Mulehide Mod Bit roofing. This is commercial grade flat roofing that comes in 2-layers to protect your home. The leaks are stopped and the roof now has Onyx Black Duration Shingles.
February this year has brought both warm and cold weather and with it Ice Dams. When your home start leaking because of Ice dams, you cannot afford to wait for the spring. These owners in Southington had just such a situation and needed the leak fixed immediately. Our Crew arrived early in the morning of the 22nd and stripped of the old shingles. They then installed nine feet of Ice & Water barrier up the roof and covered the rear dormer with it. We provide extra protection on dormers due to the low slope. For very low pitched dormers we sometimes install Flat roofing. Above the Ice & Water barrier went the ProArmor Synthetic underlayment. Next came the Onyx Black Duration shingle. The shingles come in three types. Starter shingles, the shingles, and hip and ridge shingles. During the project, we replaced bathroom vents and the chimney flashing. Once the entire system is on the roof is guaranteed by Owens Corning for 50 years. Klaus Larsen Roofing offers this 50-year warranty for full roof replacements so we can best serve our customers.
Many 2 family homes that we visit in Connecticut have two layers of shingles on them. This home in East Hartford was no exception. Not only did the roof have an layer of asphalt shingles but it had Cedar Shakes underneath. When we tore off the roof, we found furring strips. The furring strips are thin boards spaced apart to help the cedar roof to breathe. The asphalt shingles were nailed down into the furring strips but many of the nails went between the furring strips are were not firmly secured. In short, the asphalt did not last as long as it should. We solved this by installing 1/2” CDX Plywood over the furring strips. The broad plywood filled the gaps and strengthened the roof deck so it could carry architectural shingles. Once the plywood was down, we installed nine feet of WeatherLock Ice & Water barrier. Above the Ice & Water we installed ProArmor synthetic underlayment. After we got the underlayment down, we installed Owens Corning, color: Estate Grey, Duration shingles. The roof on this 2-story building was removed, replaced, and cleaned up in only two days. Our crews have hundreds of roofs of experience and when Klaus Larsen installed your roof you get Owens Corning Platinum Contractor 50-year warranty.
The owners of this home in Suffield requested a free estimate from us to look at their roof. The roof was old, leaking, and needed to be fixed that summer. Initially, they wanted us to install a second layer of shingles on top of the original roof. Our consultant visited the house and explained how a 2nd layer of shingles would harm the roof without fixing the problem. So the owners decided that the best option for them would be to have the old roof torn off and replaced with a new roofing system. The roof was 1100 square feet, so our roofers arrived, worked, and cleaned up all in the same day. Our crew arrived around 7:00 in the morning and started tearing off the old shingles. They attached a tarp to the roof edge to protect the siding and plants from debris. Next, they rolled out 9 feet of Owens Corning self-adhering Ice & Water barrier. Above the Ice & Water, they nailed down the ProArmor Synthetic underlayment. Finally, comes the Duration shingles with SureNail Technology. These shingles come with an extra layer that marks the nailing area on each and every shingle. The SureNail strip holds the nail in place and ensures our crews are installing the nails in the right location. During the roof installation, our production team went on the roof and removed and replaced the old skylights. Skylights are a common water penetration area because the skylight seal and flashing can allow water if they are old. The owners wanted new skylights that they didn’t have to open or close manually. They also wanted skylights that would close and not let rain water inside. To meet their needs we installed new Velux Solar Skylights on their home. These skylights have a motor that opens and closes them with the push of a button. They also have sensors that will close the skylights automatically if it starts raining. Now the owners can enjoy fresh air into their home without any water coming in too!

The original shingles on the home were 3-tab shingles. 3-tab shingles are flat asphalt shingles that have a brick wall pattern on them. 3-tab shingles are very common but they only last around 20 years. The shingles we installed were Owens Corning Architectural shingles. When Klaus Larsen installs an Owens Corning roof on your home, it comes with a full 50-year warranty. How is that possible? We can offer a longer warranty because we are educated and certified by Owens Corning. Klaus Larsen earned their highest certification, Platinum Preferred Contractor, in 2010 and was the first to get to Platinum in Connecticut. On the day of the job our crews arrived early in the morning and attached tarps to the roof edge. The tarps protect the house and plants from falling shingles. Once the roof was torn off we checked for and replaced rotten plywood. Next, comes the underlayment. We installed 9 feet of Ice & Water barrier. Above the Ice & Water, we nailed down Synthetic underlayment to protect the remaining uncovered plywood. Finally, the Owens Corning Duration shingles were installed with the 50-year warranty backed by Owens Corning. Call today and get your old roof replaced before you start having problems!
The owners of this house in Bloomfield had a major leak coming into the rear corner of their roof. They had the leaking area covered with a tarp but they knew they needed a permanent solution. After considering their options, they chose us to do the roof with Owens Corning Duration shingles. Color: Brownwood. Our crew began tearing off the old shingles at 7:00 am. The old shingles were collected and thrown into one of our own dumpsters. Then several sheets of plywood were replaced before the underlayment went on. We install 9 feet of Ice & Water barrier and Synthetic underlayments to protect the roof. Then the 50-year Duration shingles were nailed down. After the roof was completed, the entire property was cleaned up of debris and the nails were cleaned up with a magnetic roller. In fact, we will leave your lawn so clean that you won't find any nails left behind! If you do, we will give you $1.00 for each nail you find.
These Owners in Southington were dealing with a leak in their attached garage. They found Klaus Larsen's website and decided to have us inspect the roof. Our Platinum Status with Owens Corning enables us to offer a full 50-year warranty with Owens Corning plus 25 years workmanship coverage. The entire project was done in two days and not only resolved the leak but will protect the entire home from future leaks.
Many times owners ask how far we travel and if we go out to more remote parts of Connecticut. We certainly do! These owners lived over in North Granby and called us because their roof was leaking in the valleys. We set an appointment with them without hesitation. The inspection and estimate were given on the same day and after looking it over gave us the go-ahead to start the project. We first tore the old shingles off and replaced any rotten plywood. To fix the valley leak we installed Weathercock G Ice & Water barrier. The barrier was installed nine feet up the rake edge of the roof. We also completely covered valleys with 3 feet wide lengths of Ice & Water. The remaining uncovered plywood was protected in the ProArmor Synthetic underlayment. For shingles, the owners chose Owens Corning Duration in Harbor Blue.
These owners in Glastonbury called because they were experiencing leaks from Ice dams on the front and rear dormer of the main house. The roof itself also had shingles missing. To solve the Ice dams leaks we installed a Vented Deck System underneath the new shingles. What is a Vented Deck and what does it do? A Vented Deck is a layer of insulation, furring boards, and plywood that creates air flow underneath the shingles. We first installed 1/2” Insulation board on the existing plywood deck. Next, we nailed several 4” wide furring strips on the insulation running parallel to the rafters. Then another layer of plywood does over the strips creating gaps between the furring strips for air. Lastly, the underlayment and shingles are installed as usual on the plywood. What this does is allow cold air to pass between the furring strips and take heat away from the shingles. Ice Dams are caused by heat rising to the shingles during the winter months. If there is no heat reaching the shingles from the attic, then you won’t get ice dams. With a full Vented Deck System, these owners are now ice dam free!
Klaus Larsen may be known for Residential Roof Replacements but we also do Commercial Roofs. We have teams in place to do everything from EDPM flat roofing to huge commercial asphalt roofs. One such roof was here in South Windsor. It was a large eight door garage building owned by a condo association. We replaced 2,800 sq ft of old 3-tab shingles with new Owens Corning Architectural shingles in the color Quarry Gray in just 2 days! Having a quicker install time means less chance of rain slowing down the work or getting inside the building during the project.
These owners in Kensington, which is part of Berlin, called us out to inspect their roof. They heard about us from a friend who had gotten their roof replaced a few years ago. Along with the roof there we several details that needed our careful attention. First, they needed the skylight replaced, new fascia board on the addition, and gutter covers for the rear of the house. When our sales rep came out to give the estimate, he was able to put every concern on the contract. The roof was torn off and the new Velux skylight was installed with purpose made skylight flashing. Next, We installed 9 feet of Ice & Water barrier on the roof and around the skylight. Any exposed plywood was then covered with synthetic underlayment before the Owens Corning Duration shingles (Color: Slatestone Gray) were nailed. Next, we replaced the damaged fascia board with a Kleer fascia board. Kleer is a composite material and the owners were able to paint it to match their house. Lastly, the Leaf Relief gutter guards were installed on the existing gutters. The roof is done and all the details fulfilled as promised.
The homeowners here in Hebron were searching for contractors at the XL center Spring Homeshow. They were looking to replace their roof and asked Klaus Larsen to come out to give them a quote. The roof on their home was old and had two skylights that needed to be reflashed as well. After they saw everything spelled out clearly at a fair price they chose Klaus Larsen to replace the roof. Our crews first tarped off the area before tearing off 3,000 sq ft of shingles. Then the Ice & Water barrier was installed (9 feet) and above that the Synthetic underlayment was nailed down to the plywood. Lastly, the Owens Corning Oakridge shingles were installed with purpose made starter shingles and ridge shingles. The roof was completed in one day and is guaranteed by Owens Corning with a 50-year FULL warranty.
This home in Hartford two types of roofs: It had asphalt shingles on the main house and two small flat roofs attached towards the front. During our inspection of the roof, the owner pointed out several areas of concern. The gutter on the rear of the house was damaged and the fascia boards on the flat roofs were rotting away. The customer was very happy with the work we proposed and was able to do the project through our financing option.
When we came to replace the roof, our crew stripped the entire roof of asphalt and flat roofing. We then replaced 5 sheets of plywood before installing 9 feet of Ice & Water barrier. Next, we installed DeckSeal Flat roofing on both flat sections. We replaced the damaged gutter in the rear with new aluminum seamless gutter with LeafRelief gutter guards. We tore out the rotten fascia boards are replaced them with new pine trim boards that were then wrapped in aluminum. The entire process of tearing off the old roof to installing the last piece of chimney flashing took 1 day to complete. This 2 family home in Bristol had four layers of roofing on the existing structure. The first layer was the original roof of wooden cedar roofing with three layers of asphalt roofing on top. There was also no plywood on the rafters, just furring strips running between the framing. Furrings strips are strong enough to hold cedar roofing but not for asphalt. To strengthen the decking properly, we installed 1/2” CDX plywood over the furring strips. Once the decking was done, the Ice & Water barrier was installed 9 feet up the roof and filling the valleys. The remaining plywood was covered in synthetic underlayment. After the underlayment, the drip edge and starter shingles are nailed around the perimeter of the roof. Lastly, the Owens Corning Architectural shingles were nailed with 6 nails each. The roofing project included ridge vent, ridge shingles, and a complete clean-up of nails and leftover debris.
An owner of a home in Windsor, CT had a leaking roof. Although the roof was relatively new, water was pouring down one of the walls. When we came out to provide an estimate, we recommended the entire roof be torn off and replaced. Our crews started early in the morning and tore off one layer of old shingles. Next, they installed nine feet of Ice & Water barrier on the roof. Ice & Water was also applied around the chimney and bathroom vents. Above the Ice & Water, they installed ProArmor Synthetic Underlayment. Also, the flashing around the chimney was replaced with new lead chimney flashing. Lastly, the new Owens Corning Duration Shingles were installed with our Platinum Contractor 50-year full warranty (Color: Slatestone Gray).
The homeowner called Klaus Larsen to discuss their old roof. It had one layer and the gutters needed some work. The gutters were pitched wrong so a good amount of water was collecting which can severely damage a roof and home. To make matters worse, a tree fell onto the roof! That's when the Klaus Larsen crew knew they needed to step in. The roof may be no good if it is old but it is certainly worse to have a home completely damaged by a fallen tree! Certain parts of the roof were different ages which can lead to damage on all ends if something goes very wrong.
The Klaus Larsen crew replaced all of the damaged plywood decking and inserted three rows of Owens Corning Weatherlock G Ice & Water Shield to prevent any moisture from entering the interior of the home. Owens Corning Duration TruDefinition shingles, in the color Slatestone Gray, were added to the newly improved roof for not only protection but good looks. The materials used by Klaus Larsen can ensure any homeowner that their home will be protected for years to come. It's in our guarantee!
This customer in Weatogue, CT contacted Klaus Larsen because the roof was showing signs of its age. Built in 1963, this single family home received a full roof replacement. The owner supplied an attic fan.
This home had already existing copper gutters that were worn, malfunctioning and in need of being replaced. Klaus Larsen Roofing started by tearing down those existing gutters and installing new 5-inch 1/2 round copper gutters, which had soldered seams. We then removed and disposed of the existing downspout, and in turn installed a new copper downspout into the ground. This installment came with the Klaus Larsen Standard 5-Year Warranty. This house is now looking better than ever, thanks to Klaus Larsen Roofing!
This extensive job was one that took time, attention to detail and professionalism. What started as a routine roof replacement turned into a bit more of a project. As we tore off the existing roofing material, we found a slate roof under a layer of existing asphalt shingles. This was unexpected, but nothing the Klaus Larsen team couldn't handle. After finally tearing off both the slate and asphalt, we replaced all damaged sheets of plywood decking, installed an ice & water barrier as well as flashing tape on all roof joints. We installed the IKO Cambridge Architectural Shingle in the color Charcoal Grey.
There was a flat section on the low slope of the rear addition of the roof that was also to be replaced, however, we were to complete this part of the project in the spring, due to installation temperature constraints. Once it was warm enough out this spring to install the rolled roof, we installed a complete two-ply Owens Corning DeckSeal Modified Bitumen Rolle Roofing system.
This house is now safe, secure, and looking better than ever thanks to Klaus Larsen Roofing!

Facing the aftermath of a January storm in Windsor, CT, this home encountered a tough challenge: water leaked through a light fixture in the ceiling. Although no additional water leaked in, spots began to appear on the ceiling and water was found on the floor of the furnace room. Knowing to turn to Klaus Larsen Roofing for assistance, our expertise and commitment to quality ensured the home's restoration with a new roof replacement.
The first step in addressing water damage is to inspect the attic. The plywood ceiling showed clear signs of water damage, with dark streaks throughout the boards. During the roof replacement process, the old shingles are stripped off to further examine the plywood. For this home, the water damage was extensive, requiring the replacement of all decking. This provided a new and secure base for the roofing, ensuring the home's longevity.
Next, all plywood pieces are taped together with SealoronXT Deck Tape. This tape serves as the initial defense against water infiltration through the wooden cracks. Following this step, the Ice & Water SealoronXT membrane is applied. This high-performance barrier is designed to provide optimal protection against the harshest weather conditions. It is installed along the roofing edges with a width of six feet, ensuring a leak-free home. The final layer applied is the Velora Roof Underlayment. This membrane covers the rest of the plywood decking, offering a third layer of protection against water, ice, wind, and other weather-related damage.
With the installation of new IKO Dynasty Architectural Shingles in the color Atlantic Blue, this home disaster was effectively remedied.
