Installing a full roof on this Victorian house in Willimantic was a great honor and privilege for us. The complex style of architecture along with the turret required a highly proficient roofing company, and we were happy to oblige. All of the plywood needed to be removed and replaced, as part of a complete overhaul. We've worked on residential turrets before, so we were prepared with the experience needed to effectively roof a conical structure in a timely and proficient manner. Here was a Willimantic Victorian, with two apartments under one roof. Tenants were experiencing some leaking, and the landlord called Klaus Larsen to determine the cause of the problem. We consistently advise staying away from using 3-tab shingles, which lay side by side and are non-dimensional. They typically blur the line between an inexpensive and 'cheap' product. This single-family home in Willimantic was in need of a roof replacement. To start, we tore off one layer of existing roofing material and installed a new plywood deck over the existing structural framing of the roof. In accordance with the new building code requirements, we taped all roof joints with self-adhering flashing tape. We then installed a synthetic underlayment to all areas of the roof that does not have an ice & water barrier. In terms of shingles, we installed a Klaus Larsen Roofing System with IKO Cambridge architectural Shingles in the color Weatherwood. We finished the job by removing and replacing the existing chimney flashing with brand new lead flashing.
