This West Hartford, CT Colonial had three layers of deteriorated shingles that needed to be removed and replaced with a new roofing system. We always recommend starting with a fresh layer, as opposed to covering up asphalt and plywood that have been compromised by moisture. Though layering shingles was once a common practice, standards have changed drastically, and multiple layers can often hinder a home's chances of getting insurance or being sold on the market. Many insurance companies now insure by the layer.
