Collar ties are structurally important because they prevent the rafters of your attic from sagging. At this contemporary ranch home in Colchester, CT we tore off the two layers of existing roofing materials. After installing the Owens Corning Weatherlock G Ice & Water and ProArmor Synthetic Underlayment, we put in new brown aluminum drip edge/rake flashing along the entire outside perimeter of the roof. For shingles, we used Owens Corning Duration Shingles in the color Desert Tan. To make sure no moisture passes through to the chimney, we inserted new lead chimney flashing along the entire chimney perimeter. What made this home unique is that it had cedar siding on the outer face of the home. We removed the existing ship lap cedar siding from around the upper roof and installed new cedar siding with new rake and fascia boards. 

This home in Colchester, CT was built in 1994. After tearing off one layer of shingles, the damaged plywood decking was replaced with new plywood.
